2010-11 Deliverables

Principal Investigator(s): District 12 County Programs

We mutually agree for the District 12 counties of Cameron, Dimmit, Hidalgo, Maverick, Starr, Webb, Willacy, and Zapata to deliver the following during the period of July 15, 2010 to July 14, 2011 using funds from the Rio Grande Basin Initiative:

Cameron County:

Within urban, rural, and colonia communities and schools, introduce and demonstrate:

  1. in-home water conservation techniques and equipment
  2. water quality protection and pollution prevention
  3. water conservation programs for sports and athletic fields
  4. promote and support on-farm water conservation and water quality programs and result demonstrations.

Dimmit County:

Train child-care providers on water conservation and water quality protection.

Hidalgo County:

Within urban, and rural communities and schools, introduce and demonstrate:

  1. in-home water conservation techniques and equipment
  2. water quality protection and pollution prevention and composting
  3. water and turf management for sports and athletic fields
  4. promote and support on-farm water conservation and water quality programs and result demonstrations.
  5. establish and maintain weather station for demonstration and ET data.
  6. promote organic vegetable production and sales to reduce water quality degradation
  7. demonstrate small scale rainwater harvesting for vegetable production

Maverick County:

Provide education on crop production BMPs to reduce water quality protection through demonstrations, seminars, and workshops. Promote irrigation conservation education.

Starr County:

Within rural communities, homes, and schools, introduce and demonstrate:

  1. water conservation and water quality
  2. demonstrate rainwater harvesting

Webb County:

Working with urban communities, schools, and agriculture producers to:

  1. conduct rainwater harvesting
  2. rangeland health
  3. water conservation and water quality protection
  4. ground and surface water quality screening
  5. promote water conservation and water quality through mass media and educational displays at annual County Fair and Home and Garden Show

Willacy County:

Working with agricultural producers to:

  1. support multi-county row crop and livestock production seminars and workshops on water quality protection and water conservation.
  2. conduct on-farm result demonstrations.

Zapata County:

Water conservation and water quality educational programs for youth at school and fairs. Provide water education support during single and multi-county programs.
